Intern Letter: Bianca Cura

Updated: Aug 12, 2023

Hi!

My name is Bianca and I’m the Digital Marketing Intern at Pure Mentorship. Currently, I am a student at UC Berkeley majoring in data science and cognitive science. I’m passionate about graphic design, machine learning, software development, and data analytics. I discovered Pure Mentorship through a LinkedIn job post, and their mission resonated with me instantly. With personal experiences as both a mentor and mentee, I understand the positive impact of mentorship. My goal was to be able to impact and help other students acquire the resources they need to achieve their dreams. My involvement in other projects includes coding a 2D platformer game through Berkeley’s Game Development + Design club and being a Publication Intern for Berkeley's Filipino organization. I am also set to teach a Machine Learning course for the Women in Computing and Data Science club.

I gained exposure to graphic design and video editing software through being a part of the digital media academy at my high school. Recently, I rediscovered my passion for graphic design by creating a Field Guide for an environmental organization in Oakland, CA. To me, graphic design is my creative outlet. Creating eye-catching branding assets are extremely important for increasing brand engagement, and I’m happy that I was able to design work that I am proud of for Pure Mentorship.

Although this was a remote internship, I was still able to connect with fellow interns and executives through the regularly scheduled video meetings, fostering a sense of teamwork. Everyone I’ve met through Pure Mentorship has been nothing but inviting, hard-working, and kind!

My leadership skills grew as I coordinated with other interns and student leaders for tasks like scheduling social media posts and newsletter articles. Being a leader required me to hold both my team members and myself accountable, especially when it came to meeting deadlines. Others relied on me just as I relied on them.

If I could implement Pure Mentorship at Berkeley, my focus would be on freshmen living in dorms. I remember struggling with my college transition without guidance on coursework, internships, and resumes. Advertising on dorm Instagram pages and bulletin boards could greatly help any freshmen and sophomores facing similar challenges.

Overall, my Pure Mentorship experience has been fulfilling, thanks to the incredible people I've met and the meaningful work I've contributed!
